Union of Artists of St. Petersburg - Inspiration from Syandeba Monastery

After completing our work at the Syandemsky Dormition Women’s Monastery (in Russian: Сяндемская Успенская женская обитель), we were given a four-month deadline to select the best sketches and enlarge them onto canvases for the exhibition to be held at the Union of Artists of St. Petersburg (Санкт-Петербургский Союз художников). The exhibition was organized and curated by Mr. Бекетов Константин Анатольевич (Konstantin Anatolyevich Beketov) and featured participants from various nationalities.

About the Union of Artists of St. Petersburg

The Union of Artists of St. Petersburg (Санкт-Петербургский Союз художников) is one of the most traditional and influential artistic associations in Russia. Founded in 1932 during the reorganization of artistic structures under the Soviet regime, the entity emerged to unify and officially represent the artistic community, replacing previous independent associations. Its historic headquarters is located on Vasilievsky Island, the cultural heart of St. Petersburg, and maintains strong ties to the heritage of the Imperial Academy of Arts (now the Repin Academy), the cradle of Russian academic tradition.

The Union brings together professionals such as painters, sculptors, graphic artists, and art critics, offering legal support, exhibition opportunities, and networking space. While preserving the realistic and academic techniques typical of St. Petersburg’s classical training, it also embraces contemporary and avant-garde trends, promoting a dialogue between tradition and innovation. In addition to organizing exhibitions at its headquarters and partner venues, the entity holds lectures, workshops, and debates on artistic trends. Many of its members are graduates of the Repin Academy, reinforcing the importance of technical training in the group’s identity.
